In my culture, women are often told that cutting their hair means a loss of femininity, wisdom and beauty. Gender stereotypes passed down from generation to generation can limit self-expression, creativity and kill a woman’s identity. Culture and traditions that should be respected and honored can be problematic and need to be talked about. In this series, long hair becomes an embodiment of gender stereotypes that limit women and their self-expression.
